1. WATER CONSERVATION THROUGH GREYWATER USAGE. As opposed to using fresh water for non-ingestive tasks, ACE ENDICO has instituted a Greywater policy, using recycled water in our headquarter toilets. Greywater, also known as sullage, is non-industrial wastewater generated from domestic processes such as washing dishes, laundry and bathing. It gets its name from its cloudy appearance and from its status as being neither fresh (white water from groundwater or potable water), nor heavily polluted (blackwater). This policy protects our valuable natural resources by recycling those very resources. How novel is that?
2. WATER CONSERVATION THROUGH GRASS PAVERS. In another effort to preserve our natural water resources, ACE ENDICO has installed Grass Pavers throughout our company parking lots to allow the recycling of stormwater, and to prevent such waters from spilling into our waterways. So what are Grass Pavers? They are hollow honeycomb-like concrete grids used for the construction of permeable pavements. Once this grid is installed, topsoil, sand and gravel are added inside the grid. This helps to prevent the turf or grass from settling and collapsing from underneath itself, while encouraging filtration. A major benefit of grass and turf pavers is that they allow the drainage of storm water back into the underground soil. Grass and turf pavers are environmentally friendly, for the storm water runoff is recycled, rather than going into our waterways. 3. WATER CONSERVATION THROUGH DETENTION WATER PONDS. One of ACE ENDICO facility's most attractive features are the manmade pond attracting ducks and geese throughout the seasons. These beautiful ponds actually have a environmental function--they act as flood control when large amounts of rain could cause flash flooding if not dealt with properly. In this way, our stormwater detention basins reduce how fast runoff enters our natural waterways. This protects areas downstream from flooding and erosion. 4. ELECTRICITY CONSERVATION THROUGH FLOURESCENT BULBS AND MOTION SENSOR TECHNOLOGY. Most people know by now the many benefits compact fluorescent light bulbs have over standard incandescent light bulbs. They use 2/3 less energy an can last 10 times longer. They also generate 70% less heat (which make them safer and lowers cooling costs). In addition to the use of flourescents throughout our facility, our entire warehouse has been outfitted with state-of-the-art sensor controls, which automatically shut off luminescence after 20 minutes. We also enforce a 'lights out' policy company wide, turning office and conference room out if left empty for 15 minutes or more. Also, at the end of each workday every employee turns their workstation computers completely off. These policies not only keep our energy costs low, but it also helps preserve our environment! 5. MOVING STEADILY TOWARD A PAPERLESS ENVIRONMENT. The paperless office is an environemental philosophy to work with minimal paper and convert all forms of documentation to a digital form. In addition to saving trees, this movement is driven by a number of motivators including productivity gains, costs savings, space saving and enviromental protection. At ACE ENDICO, we have gone paperless in two major areas of our company: Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable. Also we use recycled copy paper when needed. These are just a few of the ways ACE ENDICO continues to work for our environment. |
