Reports to: Director of Transportation
The primary responsibility of the Non-CDL Delivery Professional is to drive a truck and manually unload products, including meats, produce, frozen foods, groceries, and supplies, to customer locations. This role requires a focus on safety, customer service, and adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
An individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Pre-Trip Duties:
- Review driver manifest and conduct pre-trip inspections, including trailer temperature checks and vehicle safety inspections, following DOT regulations.
Delivery:
- Deliver customer orders on time, maintaining a productive pace to meet scheduled delivery windows.
- Utilize a POD scanner to log arrival and departure times at customer sites.
- Safely unload products using a liftgate, electric pallet jack, hand truck, or manual handling, placing items in designated customer storage areas.
Customer Service:
- Verify accurate delivery of items with customers using the POD scanner.
- Address discrepancies, communicate issues, and handle returns or errors.
- Collect payment (cash or checks) as required.
Safety and Compliance:
- Monitor truck refrigeration systems and adhere to all food handling and safety procedures.
- Perform post-trip inspections, including unloading damaged goods, reconciling documentation, and completing safety and vehicle maintenance reports.
Additional Duties:
- Attend company meetings and adhere to all safety practices and policies.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
Hourly Pay: 22/hr.
Qualifications
Education/Training:
- Valid Driver’s License from the state of residence.
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and communication) to meet safety and operational requirements.
- Basic math skills for handling payments and invoices.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including early mornings, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficient in using or learning operational tools and equipment.
- Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Clean driving record with adherence to DOT and company safety standards.
- Must be comfortable driving in the NYC Boroughs (Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island)
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lift, push, or move items weighing up to 75 lbs. unassisted.
- Safely use mechanical aids for items exceeding 75 lbs.
- Perform physically demanding tasks such as bending, twisting, and reaching
- Work in extreme/inclement weather conditions and navigate steps, docks, and ramps as required.
- Possess the stamina to work long hours.
General Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must successfully pass a controlled substance screening test and background check.
- Must adhere to all safety practices and company policies.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts and extreme/inclement weather conditions. Temperatures range from below zero to 95F degrees or above outdoors. Employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
